Artist Research Tatsuki Fujimoto (1) 3/10/22

Before Writing my own One-shot I thought it would be best to go and read some one-shot first and out of all the one I read the one that caught my interested the most is Goodbye Eri written by Tatsuki Fujimoto

Tatsuki Fujimoto is a graphic novelist in Japan (Mangaka) famous for writing a series called 'Chainsaw man' which I was a big fan of so when I found out that he have written a one-shot I was excited to read it.

Goodbye Eri is a story that I will probably remember for the rest of my life. What I find interesting about it was how it blurs the line between fiction and reality, you see to fully explain what I mean I will give you a quick summery of the story. It start off with a kid filming his birthday party but suddenly his mom asked her son to flim her every single day from now cause she is dying from an illness, after a few shot showing her son filming her daily life it was finally time where her life was coming to an end, before entering the hospital the kid ran away and suddenly the hospital exploded then its slowly panned out of the shot to reveal that everything that happen so far was all a movie. It's scene like this that give this short story the impact it have and there are many more instance of that like later in the story there is a scene where our protagonist start to flim another movie with a girl named Eri who in the script is a vampire that is about to die and the movie is about documenting her final moment like what he did with his mom but as the fliming is going on Tatsuki Fujimoto slowly plant a seed of doubt through out this filming making us question whether this instance its real or fiction. For example a scene where he brought Eri to meet his dad for the first time and his dad was really angry and try to make Eri leave cause he doesn't want his son to experience to pain of making a bad movie that get horde of criticism but then it turn out all of this was faked this was all for the flim in fact his father actually think the opposite.

I hope with these short dive in the story I convey how trippy and weird this one-shot got, there was many more scene I want to write about but this is already a bit too much. Last thing I want to say is about how the one-shot is panel each page is divided into 4 equal rectangle panel usually in the same scene with just tiny different in facial expression or body language that made this simple graphic novel seem like a flim
